Unconscious fails are a way to succeed

Success is often achieved by those who don’t know that failure is inevitable.

Thanks, Giulia, for this quote which I had forgotten about.

I’ve always been slightly confused by Chanel’s quote. On one hand it makes sense that those who don’t consider failure are more likely to succeed in life. In these cases I equate failure to fear; without that sense of fear [of failing] then there are no limits to what one is prepared to attempt. It is the same philosophy that makes a successful poker player; a complete disregard for money helps in gambling circles.

On the other hand, I believe that a healthy dose of fear can be a benefit in some professions. In these cases, fear equates to adrenaline which has been proven to help the body go beyond its apparent limits.

In the end I like to apply this quote to certain situations whereas, in other circumstances, fear of failure can be a lifesaver.

There is no doubt, though, that Coco Chanel was a courageous woman who pushed the boundaries of mainstream fashion and created a movement that helped give women the courage to stand up to the male chauvinists of the era. If she had calculated the possibility of failure into her endeavour then she may never had tried at all.
