Six questions to full engage yourself in life and work

Asking active questions it is very important in our daily life. Simple, active questions can change our behaviour because they reveal where we are succeeding and where we need further improvement. And in doing so, they rivet our attention on what we can actually change. In his book, Triggers: Sparking Positive Change and Making It Last, Marshall Goldsmith outlines six active questions that fully engage us in life and work.

The Daily Questions are immensely useful for three reasons because they help us identify what we really want, not what we think we want and they motivate us in areas where we need it.

There are six daily questions in total.

  1. Did I do my best to set clear goals today?

2. Did I do my best to make progress toward my goals today?

  1. Did I do my best to find meaning today?
  1. Did I Do my best to be happy today?
  1. Did I do my best to build positive relationships today?
  1. Did I do my best to be fully engaged today?

By asking The Daily Questions, we remind ourselves that if we want we can control our lives.

7 steps to improve your time management

Although there is no one size that fits all solution, Carthage Buckley, on Coaching Positive Performance,  lists 7 steps that can help each of us improving our time management and the quality of our results.

1. Become aware : if you want to create real and last change you need to understand exactly where your time is going

2. Analyse your data: collect the time and the percentage of time spent on each activity and consider the results, are you happy about that?

3. Identify tasks which are not necessary: very often a task is being performed for no other reason than it has always been done

4. Identify the tasks that can be automated

5. Identify the tasks that can be delegated or outsourced: if you work alone and you have nobody to delegate to, consider the possibility of outsourcing

6. Make gradual changes: Pick 2-3 small changes that can have a positive impact on your time management

7. Right task, right time: examine your energy levels and make the best use of them. Assign your most important tasks to periods of highest energy

Work Smarter, Not Harder: 21 Time Management Tips to Hack Productivity

Many people try to increase their productivity. There are people who scurry from task to task, always checking e-mail, organizing something, making a call, running an errand, as they think that “staying busy” means you are working hard and you are going to be more successful.There are innumerable hacks and tricks to manage your time effectively.

These are some useful tips to manage your time:

  1. Complete most important tasks first
  2. Learn to say “no”
  3. Sleep at least 7-8 hours
  4. Devote your entire focus to the task at hand
  5. Get an early start
  6. Don’t allow unimportant details to drag you down
  7. Turn key tasks into habits
  8. Be conscientious of amount of TV/Internet/gaming time
  9. Delineate a time limit in which to complete task
  10. Leave a buffer-time between tasks
  11. Don’t think of the totality of your to-do list
  12. Exercise and eat healthily
  13. Do less
  14. Utilize weekends, just a little bit
  15. Create organizing systems
  16. Do something during waiting time
  17. Lock yourself in
  18. Commit to your plan to do something
  19. Batch related tasks together
  20. Find time for stillness
  21. Eliminate the non-essential.
  22. Enjoyment should always be the goal. Work can be play.
