Achieving the best results

The best results are achieved by using the right amount of effort in the right place at the right time. And this right amount is usually less than we think we need. In other words, the less unnecessary effort you put into learning, the more successful you’ll be… the key to faster learning is to use appropriate effort. Greater effort can exacerbate faulty patterns of action. Doing the wrong thing with more intensity rarely improves the situation. Learning something new often requires us to unlearn something old.

    Thanks for your contribution.
It is very interesting how this philosophy relate to the famous episode starring Winston Churchill, where one future historian, still in his youth – that very day the First minister was in visit at his school – would seek him with the truly unexpected question ‘What’s the secret of your success, Mr. Churchill?’ with the First minister promptly replying: “Moderating the effort! Never stay up when you can sit. And never, never, sit down when you can lay down.”

He was a true genius. Even when communicating, of course.

That’s a brilliant story, Francesco. I thought I knew most of Churchill’s quotes but this one is new to me. It is another classic from a Great Leader.
