For the month of March the selected quotation is by Peter Drucker (1909-2005) – Management consultant, educator and author, author of several books on management and a leader in establishing management education.

The Diplo calendar 2015 realized by Stefano Baldi and Ed Gelbstein presents a selection of the wisdom accumulated by humanity over the centuries that has stood the test of time and remains as valid as ever. The hope is that it will inspire you and lead you to explore the thoughts of the people who in one way or another have changed human history for the better .

For the month of February the selected quotation is by Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) – One the founding fathers of the United States of America, a man whose talents ranged from politics to science, author and inventor (including the lightning rod and bifocal lenses).

The theme of Diplocalendar 2013 was inspired by Mark Twain’s quotation that: “The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them”.

But there is so much else to read both for pleasure and to deepen our knowledge.

There is no specific selected book for the month of December, but a list of suggested readings for 2014. Consider them as our … Christmas present.

Diplomat 2.0: a winning mix

In his TEDx talk, Stefano Baldi explains how being a diplomat today is a mix of tradition and innovation. In the era of web 2.0, currently characterized by Social Media, diplomats are challenged by constantly evolving ways of communication. He argues why an adequate and continuous training will empower the diplomat of the XXI century, the Diplomat 2.0, to be still an essential and irreplaceable resource for the country he/she represents.

Stefano Baldi is an Italian career diplomat with a lifelong commitment to innovation and creativity applied to diplomatic activities. Now that he is the head of the Training structure of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he is particularly engaged in emphasizing and experimenting with shaping the role of the XXI century diplomat.

One of the subjects of the Diplocalendar 2012 is Administrivia.

Every organisation, no matter how efficient, still has activities that require people to spend time on them even when they have absolutely zero value.
Daily briefings distributed by e-mail to the whole workforce are just one example.
These are easy; they can be deleted without reading, but there are many more that just continue to be done … just because.
